Our Foundation of Faith

At The New Light Church, our faith is firmly grounded in the Holy Scriptures and rooted in the historic Christian doctrines expressed in the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

These ancient confessions unite Christians across generations, cultures, and denominational traditions in the essential truths of the Christian faith.

While our ministry embraces the rich spiritual heritage of the Pentecostal/Holiness tradition, we recognize that our faith is part of the larger Christian witness that has proclaimed Jesus Christ as Lord throughout the centuries.

We believe that authentic Christian faith is not defined solely by denominational affiliation, but by our relationship with Jesus Christ, our commitment to His Word, and our obedience to His teachings.

Our Essential Beliefs

1. We Believe in One God

We believe in one eternal God, the Creator of heaven and earth, who exists eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The three Persons of the Trinity are coequal, coeternal, and of one divine essence.

God is holy, loving, just, merciful, and sovereign over all creation.

Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

2. We Believe in Jesus Christ

We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, fully God and fully human.

He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.

On the third day, He rose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His Kingdom shall have no end.

John 1:1–14; Luke 1:35; 1 Corinthians 15:3–4; Acts 1:9–11

3. We Believe in the Holy Spirit

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son and is worshiped and glorified together with them.

The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, brings believers into new life, dwells within the Church, and empowers God's people for holy living and Christian service.

We believe the Holy Spirit continues to operate in the Church today, distributing spiritual gifts according to His will and empowering believers to witness for Jesus Christ.

We believe every Christian should earnestly desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit, as demonstrated in the New Testament Church on the Day of Pentecost.

John 14:16–17; John 16:13; Acts 1:8; Acts 2:1–4; 1 Corinthians 12:4–11

4. We Believe in the Authority of Scripture

We believe the Holy Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God and the authoritative foundation for Christian faith, doctrine, and conduct.

The Scriptures reveal God's redemptive purpose through Jesus Christ and provide instruction for righteous and holy living.

2 Timothy 3:16–17; 2 Peter 1:20–21

5. We Believe in Salvation Through Jesus Christ

We believe salvation is the gift of God's grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ.

Through His sacrificial death and bodily resurrection, Jesus Christ has made provision for the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God.

We affirm the necessity of repentance, faith, and the new birth through the work of the Holy Spirit.

John 3:3–7; Romans 10:9–10; Ephesians 2:8–9

6. We Believe in Holiness and Sanctification

We believe that God calls every believer to a life of holiness.

Sanctification is the gracious work of God through which believers are set apart for His purposes and transformed into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

We affirm the importance of consecration, obedience, spiritual discipline, and a life that reflects the character and righteousness of God.

Holiness is not merely an outward appearance or religious tradition; it is a life surrendered to God and manifested through love, integrity, purity, and obedience to His Word.

1 Peter 1:15–16; Hebrews 12:14; 1 Thessalonians 5:23

7. We Believe in the Baptism and Gifts of the Holy Spirit

We believe in the continuing ministry and empowering presence of the Holy Spirit, and we affirm the biblical experience of the baptism with the Holy Spirit as demonstrated in Acts 2.

We believe that all believers should earnestly desire to be filled with the Holy Spirit and seek the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues, both for personal spiritual edification and, when accompanied by interpretation, for the edification of the Church.

We believe speaking in tongues is a biblical manifestation of the Holy Spirit, through which believers may pray, worship, and communicate with God beyond the limitations of their natural understanding.

We further believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, including prophecy, healing, tongues, interpretation of tongues, and other spiritual manifestations described in Scripture, remain available to the Church today and should be exercised according to the will of the Holy Spirit.

We affirm that all spiritual gifts must operate in love, biblical order, and submission to the authority of God's Word.

Acts 2:1–4; Acts 10:44–46; 1 Corinthians 12:4–11; 1 Corinthians 14:2–5, 13–15, 26–28; Ephesians 5:18

8. We Believe in the Church

We believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic Church, the Body of Christ, composed of those who belong to Jesus Christ.

The Church is called to worship God, proclaim the Gospel, make disciples, minister to those in need, and demonstrate the love of Christ in the world.

We believe that Christian unity is found in our common faith in Jesus Christ and that believers are called to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

Ephesians 4:1–6; 1 Corinthians 12:12–27

9. We Believe in Baptism and the Lord's Supper

We believe water baptism is a sacred act of obedience and a public testimony of faith in Jesus Christ, signifying identification with His death, burial, and resurrection.

We believe the Lord's Supper was instituted by Jesus Christ as a sacred remembrance of His sacrificial death and a proclamation of His return.

We observe these ordinances with reverence, gratitude, and faith.

Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3–4; 1 Corinthians 11:23–26

10. We Believe in Divine Healing and the Power of Prayer

We believe that God hears and answers prayer according to His perfect wisdom and will.

We believe in divine healing and affirm that God continues to minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of His people.

We encourage believers to seek God through prayer while recognizing that His grace and faithfulness remain sufficient in every circumstance.

James 5:14–16; Philippians 4:6–7; 2 Corinthians 12:9

11. We Believe in the Resurrection and Eternal Life

We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment, and the life of the world to come.

We affirm the blessed hope of Christ's return and the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

John 11:25–26; 1 Corinthians 15:51–58; Revelation 21:1–5
